The Friends of Hockley Viaduct |

Welcome… ...to the Friends of Hockley Viaduct. We are a group of volunteers who have been dedicated to conserving the 33-arch former railway viaduct alongside the M3 Motorway near Winchester in Hampshire, England. The viaduct is the largest remaining artefact of the railway line that once linked Didcot, Newbury, Winchester and Southampton. In February 2013 a project involving Winchester City Council and Sustrans, as well as the Friends, was completed and the newly restored viaduct can be enjoyed by the public. On June 6th 2014 a commemoration was held of the viaduct’s role in the transport infrastructure of two world wars: between 1914 and 1918 those in transit through Avington, east of Winchester, and the movement of materiel destined for Normandy in June 1944.
